Customs rules at Tunis airport

When you arrive in Tunisia you must declare to the Customs the objects contained in your luggage. Your personal belongings are admitted without any formality and without payment of duties and taxes. Items contained in baggage whose nature or number reflects a commercial character are subject to the payment of duties and taxes and foreign trade formalities.

 II - Tobacco and alcoholic beverages

The following products are allowed within the limits of the quantities indicated below:

TOBACCO 
Cigarettes: 200 pieces 
Cigarillos: 100 pieces 
Cigars: 50 pieces 
Rolling tobacco: 500 grams
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES 
Titrating less than 25 °: 2 liters 
Titrating more than 25 °: 1 liter

 III - Animals

For your pets, a health certificate issued by the competent authorities at the border, will be required. It is advisable to have your pet's health book. It is forbidden to import dangerous dog species such as pit bull.

 IV - Species threatened with extinction

All animals and plants included in the Washington Convention (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora - CITES) are considered as "protected species" by the said Convention. You can consult the complete lists of protected plants and animals on the CITES website .

The traveler who wants to import such animals and plants must present the CITES export certificate issued by the authorities of the country of export. The export, import and transit of all species of wildlife, including their parts (mammals, birds, reptiles, molluscs, insects, arachnids, annelids) is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Special provisions are provided for hunting in Tunisia. For any information, please contact the Ministry of Agriculture.

 V - Cultural properties

If you are importing or exporting cultural and historical property or literary and artistic works, know that there are border measures to prohibit and prevent the movement of such goods. These measures are part of the protection of national or world heritage in accordance with international conventions concluded for this purpose.

 VI - Weapons

You import your hunting weapon ? Declare it to the Customs and get the authorization of the Ministry of the Interior. All other weapons are prohibited for import and export.

 VII - Currencies

Import

The import of foreign currency is free. If the amount of foreign currency is equal to or greater than the equivalent of 25,000 Tunisian dinars you are required to declare it to Customs at the entrance. 
If you are a non-resident and intend to re-export a balance of foreign currencies equal to or greater than the equivalent of 5,000 Tunisian dinars, you are required to declare it to Customs. The currency declaration must be made on the "Foreign Currency Import Declaration" form before leaving the zone under Customs.

Export allowances

Tunisians: the equivalent of 6,000 Tunisian dinars (3,000 for children under 10) per calendar year, not cumulative. 
Foreign residents in Tunisia: the equivalent of 3,000 Tunisian dinars (1,500 for children under the age of 10) per calendar year.

If you are a foreigner and not resident in Tunisia for more than 3 months, you can benefit from the refund of the VAT provided that:
